What a successful 2020 AFL season we had at Forest Lake Dragons even with COVID-19 restrictions requiring AFL Queensland to make some changes to our usual competition plans.
In 2020, we watched our 2019 boys (now Superstars) team move up to a mixed under 8.5 year team. With some new skills under their belt, they were able to work well as a team sharing the ball around on a bigger field with more players. The older 8.5 year mixed team continued to grow their skills showing they were a force to be reckoned with. The 9.5 years mixed team took on a new challenge – Modified Tackling and they took to it like pro’s. With the under 11’s coming off a championship win in 2019, the girls moved up an age category to under 13 girls. Even with the challenges the girls faced with a high category, they still managed to make it through to the Semi Finals.
The 2021 sign on will be held on Saturday 6 February from 10am – 2pm at CJ Greenfield Sporting Comples, 315 Freeman Road, Richlands. There will be a ‘come and try’ session and free sausage sizzle for all participants.
The Club’s Auskick program is due to begin in early March, Tuesdays at 5-6pm with the Superstars season to follow when Auskick wraps up, where participants will be able to practice their skills learnt in a small controlled game environment with other local clubs.
Junior teams training will start in February on Tuesday nights 5.30-6.30pm. Club fees start from $155 including player insurance. Fairplay vouchers are accepted. Check out our Facebook page @forestlakedragons or email forestlakedragons@gmail.com for more information.
