Former Forest Lake SHS student Phoebe Learmont will compete in the rhythmic gymnastics event at the Paris Olympics on August 9 from 6pm AEST.

Growing up in Brisbane, Phoebe discovered her passion for gymnastics at just six years old.

Initially an artistic gymnast, Phoebe later found her true calling in rhythmic gymnastics.

“Rhythmic gymnastics has taught me dedication, patience, respect and work ethic,” Phoebe said

Phoebe’s breakthrough moment came in 2017 when she swept the Australian titles, placing first in hoop, ball, clubs, ribbon, and all-around events.

This marked the beginning of a successful junior career, which eventually led her to join the prestigious Aspire Gymnastics group.

The Aspire Gymnastics group, comprising Phoebe, Saskia Broedelet, Emmanouela Frroku, Jess Weintraub, and Lidiia Iakovleva, had a stellar performance throughout 2023.

They clinched medals at various competitions, including the Sofia Cup in Bulgaria.

Their hard work and dedication paid off when they secured a quota for Australia by winning the 2024 Oceania Continental titles in Budapest, Hungary.

This victory, achieved in conjunction with the European titles, marked only the second time an Australian rhythmic gymnastics group has qualified for the Olympics.

You can watch Phoebe compete on Nine or Nine Now on August 9 from 6pm.
