Forest Lake Wasps Junior Rugby Union Club is buzzing with excitement as they gear up for the upcoming season.
Treasurer Veronica Stickley shared insights into the club’s preparations and expectations for the season ahead.
“At the moment, we’re in pre-season training, focusing on building our teams,” Veronica said.
“We’ll have teams ranging from under 6 to under 9 categories.”
The return to training has been met with enthusiasm from both players and coaches.
Veronica highlighted a special moment during the first week back.
“We were thrilled to have two Queensland Reds players join us for training, adding an extra spark to our sessions,” she said
“It was fantastic for the kids to interact with professional players.”
With six weeks of pre-season training underway, the club is eagerly anticipating the start of games after the Easter holidays, scheduled to commence on April 20.
“The majority of last year’s players have re-signed, and we’ve also welcomed new additions to the club. We’re steadily building momentum,” Veronica said.
Wasps for the future
In addition to the regular teams, Forest Lake Wasps offers the “Little Stingers” program tailored for children aged three to five.
The Little Stingers program focuses on developing basic rugby skills and fitness, laying a strong foundation for future involvement in the sport.
Last year was the Wasps first season back after a three year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Last year was our first season post-COVID … it’s been a gradual process rebuilding our numbers and we’re optimistic about the growth trajectory,” Veronica said.
As the season approaches, Veronica encourages interested individuals to join the club.
“We have vacancies across all teams, so it’s not too late to get involved,” she said.
“Whether you’re a seasoned player or new to the sport, there’s a place for everyone at Forest Lake Wasps.”
Training is held Thursday nights from 5.30 pm at the Forest Lake Sports Field for anyone aged 6 years to 9 years interested in playing.
