This year the Inala Family Support Centre will be partnering with Orange Sky to provide showers and laundry services for homeless people in Inala and surrounding areas, and they are seeking volunteers to help.
“We’re finding there are a lot more homeless people with [the cost of living] going up,” Inala Family Support Centre coordinator Liza Dykstra said.
Orange Sky volunteers provide practical support, as well as friendship, connection and non-judgemental conversation with homeless people during the hour it takes to do a load of laundry.
“Orange Sky began operating our services across the Brisbane area in 2014, and since then we have seen rapid growth, with the introduction of new vans and more shift locations to help those in need,” Orange Sky Chief Operations Officer Ryan Salzke said.
“We are excited and fortunate to partner with the Family Support Centre at the St Vincent De Paul Society to soon bring our services to the Inala community. This service will mean a great deal to Inala locals, providing those doing it tough with the opportunity for clean washing and a place for connection.”
Mr Salzke said more volunteers are needed in order to continue the expansion of their services.
“We are working hard to bring this service to the Inala community, however to begin operation we need a local team of compassionate volunteers to deliver the service.
