It’s always exciting when we start a new Scouting year – or term – waiting to see what activities our youth come up with, watching their friendships grow as they welcome new members, and say goodbye to those who are moving on. Â
A huge part of Scouting is the youth-led component and, as usual, our youth sections gathered at the start of the term to brainstorm, discuss and choose the activities for their term plan.
Things don’t always go to plan, with illness, weather and other events having an impact, so we also aim to be flexible and resilient.
Our Cubs have leaned more toward personal growth activities over the past few weeks, from developing their code of conduct, to welcoming our Joeys for an afternoon of baking and card making.
Meanwhile, our older Scouts have taken a more social and community approach. They enjoyed a progressive dinner, assisted with the Bunnings sausage sizzle fundraiser, brushed up on their first aid skills, and spent an evening exploring the Centennial Park area learning more about their community and testing their night navigation skills.
Sadly, our planned camps have both been washed out, with damage to the campgrounds and access roads, so that will be an activity for another time.
Our Joeys are following an alphabet theme this term. Unfortunately, our first planned activity for Australia Day was not able to go ahead, so the Joeys put all of their energy into our B for Bike Safety week to earn their cycling stage 1 badges. Â
The following week was C for Cupcakes and Cards with the Cubs.
