A new walking group has formed in Forest Lake for people of all ages and abilities who want to focus on their fitness in a fun, safe and social environment.
Forest Lake local Denise Lloyd-Kelly started the free group, named “The Lake Lappers,” to help form community connections centred around health.
“It’s all about fitness … it really is just about getting there and walking hard and fast,” Denise said.
Denise is a clinical nutritionist who runs DLK Nutrition and Health Care, an at-home clinic in Forest Lake where she helps clients with weight management, thyroid problems, menopause, gut health and cancer recovery among other health-related issues.
“There are so many people out there getting conflicting information about health and health choices,” Denise said.
“The walking group is purely aimed at getting people out there and getting them all fit.”
Denise said she would also share her knowledge of health and fitness tips to the group throughout the week via their Facebook page.
The group currently consists of about 20 people ranging from age 14 to late 60s, and it is open to all ages and abilities.
They meet on Monday and Wednesday at 6:45 pm at The Lake Amphitheatre off the Esplanade. The time is subject to change as the season changes, with additional days and sessions to become available as the group increases in size.
Denise said anyone new to Forest Lake and seeking connection in the community is encouraged to come along and make some friends.
“Come along and get fit at the same time, and exchange numbers if you want to,” she said.
