The months of April to May was a very exciting time for the Local News Publications team. We recently welcomed four new staff members, including a new sales assistant and three new journalists across our three hyperlocal magazines.
I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce the Forest Lake community to its newest Lake News journalist, Corin Mackay.
Corin has lived in Forest Lake all his life. He attended Forest Lake State School from prep to grade six, and graduated from St John’s Anglican College in 2022. Corin is now in his first year studying a Bachelor of Journalism and Arts, majoring in Political Science and International Relations at the University of Queensland.
Corin currently tutors students at St John’s Anglican College in English, English and literature extension, and biology. He also plays the cello and makes music in his spare time.
“I love the tight-knit community Forest Lake has developed that I’ve seen all pitch in and help each other despite their differences, and the facilities and landmarks like the Lake that allow that community to be fostered and grow together,” Corin said.
“I look forward to meeting new people and doing my best to bring to the light unsung members of the community and their own lives and experiences.”
I recently had the pleasure of attending the St John’s Anglican College Charlie and the Chocolate Factory musical on the Friday 21 April opening night with Nayda Hernandez from the Forest Lake Ward office. Corin also attended the Saturday night performance, which you can read all about on page 39. We all had so much fun watching the students perform!
The Lake News sales manager Tracy Baird and I also met with Cr Charles Strunk and Nayda Hernandez in April to discuss council and local news matters and brainstorm ways to support each other to better serve the community in Forest Lake and surrounding suburbs.
