The annual Forest Lake Community Festival was held on August 26 at the lake, with thousands of residents enjoying the festivities.
On the stage, a variety of musical and performing groups sang, danced and played to a full house.
Performers included internationally famous Kirtan singer Vaiyasaki Das, the Forest Lake State High School drumline, school instrumental and choir performances, dancers, fire twirlers, cheerleaders, and more.
Andrew Knight, who ran the Bow Tie Pets stall on The Esplanade, said he enjoyed the event.
“This is my first time at the festival; it’s a great market,” he said.
Closer to the Lake Boulevard, a sideshow area was set up, complete with a revolving teacup ride, rock climbing wall, petting zoo and reptile display, along with a show bag stand and hot food stalls.
Angela Naumann, president of the Richlands, Inala and Suburbs History Group, talked to visitors about the local history of cultural heritage of Forest Lake and its surrounding suburbs.
“I’m thoroughly enjoying myself this afternoon. We’ve had a lot more people through here than last year, and it’s great to talk to so many about the history of the area,” Angela said.
Family of festival goers John, Ryan and Nick Portlowe said they all had a great time at the festival and would love to come again next year.
“I think we’re most looking forward to the fireworks,” John said.
“I’m surprised to see so many people here – definitely something we’d come back to!”
