Two new Forest Lake schools have joined the Brisbane City Council’s Active School Travel Program.
This year, St John’s Anglican College in Forest Lake will tackle the curriculum for the first time, while Grand Avenue State School will continue the program.
St John’s Anglican College head of junior school, Martin Brownlow, said the program will help foster an active mindset across students and their families.
“We wanted to join the program to promote an active and healthy lifestyle for our school community,” Mr Brownlow said.
“We are extremely cognisant of the fact (that) healthy bodies promote healthy minds, and the Active Schools Travel Program was the ideal opportunity to further strengthen this for the students at the College.
“We are looking forward to considering alternative transport and making the school journey an enjoyable, uplifting and even vibrant occasion for all involved.”
Brisbane City Council Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the new school year will mean even more chances to get out and about in Brisbane.
“Our Active School Travel Program is one of the longest-running active travel initiatives in the country, celebrating 20 years of travel in 2024,” Cr Schrinner said.
“Whether it is walking, cycling, scooting or anything else in between, we want to see Brisbane families ditching their cars and heading to school more actively.”
