The sun shone brightly over more than 20 volunteers at the first Forest Lake Community Clean-Up Day on February 18.
Many arrived before the 8am start time ready to collect their bags, gloves and pickers that were kindly provided by the litter crew at Brisbane City Council.
Forest Lake Community Association president and clean-up day organiser Kylie Gates said teams headed off in all directions, cleaning up around the lake, up to McDonalds, past the Forest Lake Hotel, and out to Grand Ave and Centennial Way.
“We managed to collect around 25 garbage bags of litter including cardboard boxes, copious amounts of cigarette butts, bottle caps, shopping receipts, takeaway packets and 3 residents pulled out a shopping trolley from the lake,” she said.
“Denise Kelly from Now Healthy at Forest Lake even found an old fire extinguisher & dirty nappies.”
Kylie said the bus stop was the worst area, despite the bins on site.
“It would be wonderful if people would use the bins provided there,” she said.
Kylie said a big thank you to Andrew from Drooies Lawn and Garden for collecting the bags and taking the litter to the dump.
“The clean up crew then all gathered around at the end of the cleanup for a sausage sizzle with thanks to Matthew Groves at I Look Property Brisbane,” she said.
