The Queensland Government has announced a major expansion of its successful FairPlay program, effective from July 1, 2024.
The program, designed to reduce cost barriers for families, will now be open to all Queensland children aged between five and 17, with the voucher value increased from $150 to $200.

Premier Steven Miles highlighted the program’s expansion and accessibility to kids across the state.
“My three kids all play a sport and have done so since they were very young, so I know how quickly registration fees, uniform, and equipment costs can stack up,” he said.
“Community sport is so important to mental health, social development, and developing healthy habits – something I believe should be accessible to all Queensland kids.”
The number of available vouchers will also increase significantly, from up to 50,000 to up to 200,000, reflecting the government’s commitment to making organised sports accessible to more families across the state.
This expansion, costing $40 million in the 2024-25 Budget, is part of the government’s broader efforts to address cost-of-living pressures.
Deputy Premier and Treasurer Cameron Dick emphasised the positive impact of sports on kids in the community.
“I’ve seen the power of sport transform lives. Expanding FairPlay will give more Queensland kids a fair go at a sport they might be interested in,” he said.
“We know how important it is that Queensland kids are active, social, and feel connected with the community, which is why we are expanding FairPlay to help more families overcome the financial barriers associated with organised sport.”
Local sporting teams in Forest Lake, such as the Forest Lake Magpies Rugby League and Forest Lake Netball Club, are set to benefit from the increased participation facilitated by the expanded voucher program.
These clubs offer valuable opportunities for children to engage in team sports, develop skills, and build friendships.
The FairPlay program has already had a significant impact since its inception in 2019, with over $30 million redeemed by activity providers and more than 210,000 vouchers used by eligible families.
The expansion of the FairPlay program ensures that 50,000 vouchers remain guaranteed for those under the current eligibility criteria — children and young people aged between 5 and 17 who hold – or whose parent, carer, or guardian holds – a valid Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card.
The program will be open from July 1, 2024, with vouchers to be redeemed by June 2025, covering both summer and winter sports and activities.
