The speed limits along Johnson Road between Carole Park and Browns Plains have been amended from May 29, 2024 to manage the medium to high road infrastructure risks and to reduce crash risks.
A speed limit review for the Johnson Road corridor spanning over Forest Lake, Parkinson, Larapinta and Heathwood was undertaken by Brisbane City Council and Logan City Council.

The findings of the review recommended reducing the speed limit along the Johnson Road in the following segments:
- Segment 1 from Cobalt Street to Stapylton Road was reduced from 80 kph to 70kph.
- Segment 2 from Stapylton Road to the railway line was reduced from 80 kph and 70 kph to 60 kph.
- Segment 3 from the railway line to Mt Lindesay Highway was reduced from 70 kph and 60 kph to 60 kph.
Forest Lake Ward councillor Charles Strunk said residents had been advocating for reductions in speeds along Johnson Road from Cobalt street to Stapylton road ever since he first became Councillor.
“The lower speed will assist drivers to turn out of Woogaroo Street to Johnson Road more safely until a roundabout can be funded by council,” he said.
“The lower speeds will also better reflect the industrial development that is taking place on Johnson Road, with increased numbers of larger and small vehicles turning on and off Johnson Road.”
Logan City Council division 7 councillor Tim Frazer highlighted the high level of reported crashes on Johnson Road.
“A speed limit review was carried out by Brisbane City Council and as a result, Council’s Speed Management Advisory Committee (SMAC) involving representatives from Brisbane City Council, Logan City Council, Department of Transport and Main Roads, Police and RACQ supported the decision to reduce the speed limit by 10km/h,” he said.
“It is believed that this will help reduce the number of crashes and their severity.”
