Construction has begun on a new local Woolworths shopping centre in Doolandella set to be open in 2025.

The $23 million dollar centre will bring significant employment opportunities to the local community, with 500 jobs during construction and approximately 130 ongoing jobs when the centre opens next year.

Located at 943 Blunder Rd, Doolandella, the new development will be home to 4,200 square metres of retail space including a full-line Woolworths Supermarket, eight-bay direct to boot service, BWS, and an additional specialty stores.

A ceremonial sod turning marked the official start of construction, attended by State Member for Inala, Ms Margie Nightingale MP, Brisbane City Councillor Charles Strunk and Woolworths State Manager Property Development Queensland, Chris Sheehan.

Chris Sheehan said the modern and convenient centre would serve the needs of the local community well into the future.

“The Doolandella development is an important part of our ongoing commitment to investing in greater Brisbane – and across Queensland – to support jobs growth and increasing demand for more localised, neighbourhood retail close to where residents live and work,” he said.

“On completion, this new Woolworths neighbourhood shopping centre out at Doolandella will become a high quality and convenient shopping destination – ensuring residents in the immediate catchment areas don’t need to travel too far for their shopping needs.

“We look forward to welcoming customers into our store in 2025.”

State Member for Inala Margie Nightingale said the centre would provide more jobs for local residents.

“This Woolworths development is great news for local residents,” she said.

“It’s in a convenient location for our fast-growing community here in Doolandella and will create jobs close to home.”

There will also be parking space for 137 cars, the inclusion of new cycle bays, and more than 550 solar panels across the centre’s rooftop which will offset 20 per cent of the store’s energy needs.
