An evaluation into establishing a new secondary school in the Greater Pallara area has been secured, relieving some of the future pressure from Forest Lake State High School and Glenala State High School.
The investigation will analyse projected enrolment data for the local area, considering the ideal timing and location for a high school campus as Pallara State School sees enrolment numbers increase.
Algester MP Leanne Enoch says that the high school is necessary to facilitate the growth in Greater Pallara, including Willawong, Heathwood and Doolandella.
“Earlier this month, after a successful Call to Action, I joined Assistant Minister for Education Corrine McMillan to announce that I have secured a high school evaluation for the Pallara area, and confirm that a secondary school is in the Department’s new schools’ pipeline,” she said.
“As more and more families choose to call Pallara, Heathwood and Doolandella home it is evident that a future high school for the area will be required.
“We need only look at the rapid growth in enrolment at Pallara State School and the growing number of new homes in the area to realise that relieving the expected enrolment growth at Forest Lake State High School and Glenala State High will be important.”
“I have been advocating for more education infrastructure in our community for many years alongside Federal Member for Oxley Milton Dick, local parents, the Pallara SS P&C and more recently our newly elected Councillor for Calamvale Ward, Emily Kim,” Minister Enoch said.
“In particular, the work of the Pallara Future School Working Group, which I established a number of years ago, has been critical in progressing to this next exciting stage in securing a future high school.”
The independent high school evaluation will consider the enrolment data and projected growth of the area which will shape the outcome of a future high school, including timing and location.
“This is an incredible outcome for our local community and I want to thank the many local residents who have worked with me on this next important step,” Minister Enoch said.
