In a ‘circle of life’ type scenario, four-year-old Logan West News has bought the Local News Publications that inspired its inception.
Four years ago, Logan West retiree Chris Wren challenged me to start a newspaper for the Logan West community. Chris told me the story of how he had started The Lake News in 1993 after moving into Forest Lake while there were still only 400 homes in the brand new estate. He did the same when Springfield started in 1997 with The Greater Springfield Times. Chris and his wife Betty retired from the publishing business in the 2000s handing the business over to their daughter and son in law Susannah and Graham Friis. After nearly three decades of sharing the grassroots stories of Forest Lake and Greater Springfield, Susannah and Graham were ready for a change of career and looked to the young Logan West News to take it on.
Over the last four years, Logan West News has grown from a 16 page one-man experiment to a 40 page publication producing local news and stories for the Logan West community every day. Our team of journalists, designers and sales staff are energetic and passionate about celebrating the people, places and events that make our communities a great place to live.
Local News Publications will continue growing Logan West News and The Lake News, and aims to relaunch The Greater Springfield Times later this year. This will give us three publications sharing boundaries in what we are calling the Tri-City Corner (covering the South-West corner of Brisbane, the North-East corner of Ipswich and the North-West corner of Logan).
Celebrating the good news of more than 100,000 residents happening across 29 suburbs, Local News Publications is excited about giving voice to grassroots community and growing with local businesses.
On behalf of the whole Local News Publications family, I want to thank all the advertisers and contributors who have supported us and given us the opportunity to tell local stories and promote local business over the last thirty years.
We are honoured to continue the great work that Chris and Betty started and Susannah and Graham built upon. We look forward to working with you to celebrate our communities and champion our people. So thank you for the part you have played in making today possible and for all you are doing to build a strong community.
I look forward to meeting and working with you over the coming months and years. If you have a story we can tell, please let me know at paul@LNP.net.au and if we can advertise your business, we’d love to be part of your growth.
On behalf of the Local News Publications family.
