Councillor Charles Strunk

The Lake News    December 14, 2023    3 min read

As we finish up for the year, I wanted to take one last opportunity to wish you and your family a happy festive season. Congratulations to all our Year 12 school leavers on completing their time at school and enjoy your well-deserved holidays. As always, I have had a wonderful time catching up with residents and friends at so many of our local community functions in November and December.

Remembrance Day Commemoration on November 11, 2023

As the Councillor, it is always a true honour and a privilege to attend the local Forest Lake Remembrance Day Commemoration on the 11th of November to pay my respects and lay a wreath of remembrance. This year, I was filled with an immense sense of pride to stand alongside one of our few remaining World War II veterans, Mr George Churchward, who served in Port Moresby and Wau, in Papua New Guinea. This occasion was made extra special having recently wished him a happy 100th birthday and congratulated him on an incredible milestone. I have known Mr Churchward for many years. His selflessness and love for the people and his country are commendable. In 1947, having served our country, Mr Churchward decided to join the Returned and Service League of Australia (RSL), which would eventually lead to him transferring his membership many years later, in 2003, to the Forest Lake and Districts RSL Sub Branch, where he continues to support his fellow veterans and ex-servicemen and women. May this national Forest Lake hero continue to live a happy and prosperous life full of joy.  I would like to thank President Mr Steve Ford and the members of the Forest Lake RSL Sub-branch for holding this and future important ceremonies.

Forest Lake Community Carols

The Christmas spirit is alive and well in the community. I’m overjoyed with the fantastic turnout this year at the annual Forest Lake Community Carols. Shoutout to President Kylie Gates and her Forest Lake Community Association members and volunteers who continue to bring so much joy to residents over the festive period. This night means so much to so many who enjoy taking timeout of their busy lives to sing, play, and watch all the wonderful

performances on stage. And, of course, say a G’day to Santa and his elves.

Get ready for severe weather

It has been incredibly rewarding to see how popular the Forest Lake Ward severe weather packs have been with residents. If you don’t have one yet – make sure to collect one from the Forest Lake Ward office. These packs include information on where to get sandbags, information for seniors and children, information on how to prepare if you own a pet, and much more. As my office put them together, we can tailor them to your needs.

If there’s anything I can do, or my staff (Pam or Nayda) on these or any other council matters, please contact my office at Forestlake.ward@bcc.qld.gov.au or on 34071211. I look forward to seeing you when I’m out and about in our delightful community.
