The community-favourite Early Birds Ekka event is returning to Forest Lake this year on Saturday July 30, 2022 for the whole family to enjoy.

The carnival celebration will include all the Ekka favourites, including show bags, sideshow alley games, face painting, market stalls, food trucks and much more.

The locally famous Dagwood Dog Guy will also be returning this year to provide food and fun for all with Dagwood Dogs, the laughing clown game, the fishing game, show bags and slushies.

Early Birds Forest Lake centre manager Alana Sherwood said the early learning centre has been running community Ekka events for the past three years.

“We do this as a chance for the community to get involved with us,” she said.

“This year we just want everyone to come along and have fun.”

The carnival will feature market stalls to help support local small businesses.

There will also be a petting zoo, face painting, fairy floss, and popcorn available to the community for free.

Mrs Sherwood said Early Birds Forest Lake values opportunities for community connection and hoped people would enjoy getting together for the event.

“We have such a beautiful community here in Forest Lake … people want that old-school community of knowing your neighbours,” she said.

Early Birds Forest Lake aims to help families create connections, foster a sense of community, help people get to know their neighbours, enjoy nature, and for children to recognise faces, places and spaces in the community.

“We call ourselves a village here, and our little tagline is #partofourvillage,” she said.

“On Saturday mornings at the end of every month we do a yarn at the lake, which is an opportunity for families to come down and be part of our community outside of the centre where they can chat with other families and meet their children’s friends.”

Mrs Sherwood said those who attend the open day will be able to come through and tour the early learning centre.

“The girls will have activities set up in the rooms, and families can come through and chat with the educators,” she said.

The Early Birds Ekka event will take place on July 30, 2022 from 11:00am – 3:00pm at 91 Joseph Banks Avenue in Forest Lake.
