Forest Lake Girl Guides July Update

New Meeting Place

Forest Lake Guides have secured a new meeting place and have been meeting Friday evenings 6.30-8.30pm at CJ Greenfield Community Hall at Richlands. We love our new meeting place as we now have a fully functioning kitchen, large hall and plenty of tables and chairs. The best part is that it is nice and warm. 

Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

Our girls recently celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee by learning about her reign as Queen, her service during the war and also her time as a Girl Guide. The celebration was capped off with a high tea in which the girls made some tasty slices and served tea and coffee for our guests, one of whom was Milton Dick (MP). Well done to all our girls for achieving the Royal Connections badge. 

Outdoors

We finished off the term with a trip to Crank Indoor Rock Climbing and some of our girls attended Kindilan’s 70th birthday celebration during the school holidays. Kindilan is our state camping facility at Redband Bay and is a fabulous place to camp and enjoy the outdoors. One of our senior Guides, Talitha, camped for a week over the school holidays as part of the Qld State Camp and had a fabulous time. Our younger Guides will have the opportunity to camp next month as part of the Southern Cross Region camp. 180 girls are expected to be there sharing fun, friends and adventure. 

This Term

This term we began working on our SES badge which involves learning how to respond in emergencies, what we can do to keep ourselves and others safe in the outdoors and what the SES do for our State. We were lucky enough to visit the Richlands SES depot at the end of June. We have a lot of great activities coming up this term in which we will be out and about in the community either having a scavenger hunt through Southbank or participating in the Forest Lake Community Festival.

Fundraiser

All are welcome to join us for our fundraising dinner at the Blue Fin Fishing Club on the 12th of July.
