Hats off to Tony Ryder, the March maestro who clinched the coveted Heritage Bank Slideshow Award with his impeccably timed photo of a couple of swallows. Bravo, Tony, for capturing nature’s aerial acrobats in all their splendor!

Tony takes us on a virtual trip to the scenic Buckley’s Hole Bongaree at Bribie Island, where he seized the moment on a radiant morning. Armed with his trusty Canon R6 and RF 100-500 lens, Tony expertly framed the scene, immortalizing the graceful swallows against the backdrop. With settings dialed in just right—ISO 200, f10, 500mm, and a shutter speed of 1/500s—Tony’s snapshot is a masterclass in avian photography.

As the deserving winner of the Heritage Bank Slideshow Award, Tony is set to receive an A3+ print of his winning photo, courtesy of the club’s state-of-the-art printer, generously funded by the Forest Lake Heritage Bank. It’s a tangible token of recognition for Tony’s artistry, ready to adorn his walls with the beauty of nature’s winged wonders.

But the Forest Lake Photography Club isn’t just about accolades—it’s a vibrant community where creativity thrives and friendships blossom. Every month (except in January), members gather on the second Tuesday at 7:15 pm at the Forest Lake Community Hall, eager to share their passion for photography. Visitors are warmly welcomed, invited to join the ranks of shutterbug enthusiasts and soak in the camaraderie.

At the April meeting, the club was treated to a captivating talk on flash photography by one of its professional photographers, Marigold Meagher. Flash photography secrets unveiled, the club members left inspired and armed with new techniques to elevate their craft. And let’s not forget the recent outing to Eat Street—a feast for the senses as members indulged in delectable cuisine while capturing photos with the enchanting lights in the background.
