The Rotary Club of Forest Lake was again involved in the Australia Day Citizenship ceremony in the Calamvale Community Hall. This year it was a much smaller ceremony, probably due to the effect of COVID-19. In January 2020 almost 2,000 people became Australian citizens over four separate sessions. This year there were only 200, requiring just one session.
Rotary provided assistance through setting up the venue (and packing up after the ceremony was over) and the provision of administrators prior to and during the ceremony. Councillor Owen thanked all the Rotarians involved in making the event successful.
The District 9630 Annual Conference is scheduled to be held in Toowoomba from 4-6 March, 2021 and it is anticipated that a 100% attendance from the members of our Club will be achieved.
We need your help. This is an unusual appeal for help from an individual in our community. It is not something that we usually do but this lady is in quite desperate circumstances and we agreed to help her.
A recently divorced lady, she telephoned me asking if Rotary could help her. Her landlord wants to move back into her apartment on February 24th and thus has issued her with a notice to vacate by that date. She needs accommodation for herself and her son. Due to COVID-19 she is currently unemployed and seeks a part time or full time job preferably in the Richlands/Forest Lake area. She has qualifications in the hospitality industry and has excellent references.
