Leo the Lion throws roaring birthday bash

Leo the Lion – The Lion Richlands and Lions FC iconic mascot – paid special visit to the club to celebrate his birthday on August 10… which also happened to be International Lion Day.

Children’s faces lit up on Wednesday as Leo made his way around the busy restaurant of the gaming, dining and sports venue – handing out lollipops and putting smiles on families faces.

Lion Richlands marketing manager Kerri Ashbrooke said the visit from Leo was a hit with patrons, and was followed by a riveting interactive African drumming show.

“It is ironic that the finalisation of our major renovations back in 2017 align with International Lion Day, and we have since launched our Mascot Leo,” she said.

“This year we are lucky enough to have International Lion Day fall on the public holiday, so it created the perfect opportunity to celebrate.

“The club is very proud and passionate about our 65 year history, why not celebrate it.”

The renovations included the expansion of the restaurant, a dedicated sports bar as well as the expansion of their gaming room.

“Our restaurant went from being the typical club bistro to table service and is now a sought after destination for dining,” she said.

The restaurant was so popular that the club expanded it a second time in 2021.

The same year they added a lounge area which has become popular for those wanting to relax with a cocktail and enjoy the entertainment during the weekends.

“We do still get people coming into the club that haven’t been here since pre-renovations that are amazed with the changes,” she said.

Since the renovations the club has expanded their staff numbers from 180 to 250.

This year the club was honoured to have received The Clubs Qld Club of the Year Award as well as Football Club of the Year Award.

The Lion Richlands is located at 133 Pine Rd, Richlands QLD 4077.
