Recently, I had the privilege of visiting Headspace in Inala, with the Hon. Emma McBride, the assistant minister for mental health and suicide prevention, and rural and regional health. Headspace provides vital services such as mental health support, physical health advice, and assistance with education and employment.
Meeting the dedicated staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to offer these essential services was a privilege and I commend their efforts. We also engaged with some of the young people who benefit from the support provided by Headspace, hearing firsthand about their experiences and the positive changes they have seen in their lives.
Our joint visit underscored the importance of mental health services and the positive impact organisations like Headspace have on the lives of many young individuals.
In recognition of this, I am pleased to share that as part of the 2024-25 Budget, the Government is providing an additional $27.13 million to continue and expand the program. This funding will facilitate up to 1,500 student and 150 graduate placements by December 2026. This investment reflects our commitment to ensuring that young people in our community have access to the support they need to thrive.
I extend my sincere gratitude to the team at Headspace for their dedication and to Minister McBride for her support. Together, we are working towards a healthier, more supportive community for all.
