Federal member for Oxley Milton Dick was elected as the Speaker of the House of Representatives on July 26 2022.

The Speaker is elected from among the 151 members of the House as the principal office holder, representative and spokesperson.

Mr Dick said it was an enormous privilege to be selected for the position.

“It’s such an honour to receive election by the house as the 32nd Speaker of the House of Representatives,” he said.

“While I am humbled to have been elected, I want to assure readers that my number one priority will be the Oxley Electorate.

“As always, no problem will be too big or too small for me.”

Mr Dick said he will continue to host Mobile Offices, visit schools and attend community events.

“As far as I’m concerned, it’s business as usual,” he said.

In a video posted to Milton Dick’s Twitter account on July 28, he affirmed his commitment to making the House “a place for robust, respectful and productive debate.”

Forest Lake Ward councillor Charles Strunk congratulated Mr Dick via facebook.

“My heartfelt congratulations to my good friend Milton Dick MP on becoming the 32nd Speaker of the House of Representatives. A hard working representative, who is very deserving of this recognition,” he said.

State member for Inala and Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk also extended her congratulations.

“You work so hard for your community and I know you will do a great job on behalf of all Australians,” she said.
