Chúc mừng Năm Mới! I look forward to joining the Vietnamese community in welcoming the Lunar New Year and celebrating the vibrant multicultural community we share in the Inala Electorate. We are so fortunate to have a diversity of cultures and experiences that enrich our local area. May the Year of the Buffalo bring security, good health, and prosperity to you and your families.
As we welcome the beginning of a new year, I would like to wish students the best for the school year. I would like to extend special wishes to the students completing their final year of study at Forest Lake State High School and St. John’s Anglican College this year, as well as students preparing to graduate primary school and enter a new level of learning. It is also important to acknowledge our brave preppies who will be starting their first year of education, and I know that our teachers will continue to be outstanding role models for our next generation.
With the start of a new school year, I’d like to remind the community to again drive safely around our schools. A reduced speed limit of 40km/h is back between 7-9am and 2-4pm during the week in our school zones.
Every Australia Day we warmly welcome the new additions to our community, and I want to congratulate those who recently became Australian citizens. I would like to thank the Lions Club of Inala for hosting the Special Citizenship Ceremony for over 80 people from 16 different countries around the world. This is a significant milestone for Queensland as we embrace our diversity in our communities.
Finally, I am immensely thankful to the Forest Lake community for their ongoing efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19. Queensland has managed to navigate through this pandemic by working together, and you did not disappoint when you were called on again to do your part in the fight against the virus. These restrictions can be difficult but they are necessary to save lives and get our state’s economy back on track. It is important to remember to maintain social distancing, wash your hands regularly, and get tested if you have any symptoms.
