St John’s Anglican College, Forest Lake State School and Forest Lake State High commemorated in unison with the Forest Lake community last weekend the one hundred and eighth anniversary of ANZAC day.

The words “lest we forget” called upon many in the community last weekend to come together and remember those that have died and lived for the land upon which we reside.

2023 marks the first year that Forest Lake State High and the RSL have worked together to have the school’s marching band accompany the parade.

The band, led by instrumental music teacher Mr James Humphry, was followed by a procession of students of Forest Lake State High School, Forest Lake State School, Grand Avenue and Saint John’s students.

The parade started at High Street and finished at the amphitheatre at the lake, where the service was carried out.

St John’s held an ANZAC chapel service at both of its campuses, featuring the college’s Drumline, Wind Orchestra, Chorale and all-male singing group Fella Voce.

All performing groups worked hard on their performances, practising weekly throughout the first term in preparation for the service.

Kush Isaacs, a year 8 student at St. John’s performed the Last Post on trombone during the minute of silence at the high school senior campus, with music teacher Leona Collier doing the same at the Junior Campus.
