A second Forest Lake Show and Shine event was held in late June to the car community’s delight, with vehicle-lovers coming from far and wide to show off their favourite automobiles.
130 cars arrived and were shown off from 9am-12pm on Sunday June 25, with a wide range of makes and models of cars on display.
There were also three market stalls related to cars and bikes, multiple food vendors for the community to enjoy, and prizes and awards for best in show car & bikes were also awarded on the day.
Forest Lake Ward Councillor Charles Strunk said he was honoured to present David and Mel one of the winning prizes for their VW Kombi, Ruby.
Event organiser Kylie Gates, who also works as an event coordinator for Youngcare, said the Show and Shine raised $300 for Youngcare with a donation required for entry of all vehicles.
“Youngcare supports young adults with high physical disabilities by providing appropriate housing, financial support and a connect line to adults and their families seeking support,” Kylie said.
Kylie decided to start the Show and Shine event to give the Forest Lake community an opportunity to connect with each other over shared interests, with her other endeavours including the Forest Lake Community Festival and Movie Nights under the stars.
“My husband and I are both Holden fans, and I wanted to bring something different to the area rather than markets, especially concentrating on interests more specific to me,” she said.
“Being able to organise and run events for my local community voluntarily is really rewarding as I also get to do it daily too.”
Approximately 95 vehicles attended the first show in March, and another show will take place on October 29.
