The Lake News    February 3, 2024    2 min read

As your local Councillor, I hope Forest Lake Ward students have had a safe return to school and I ask drivers to drive safely on our roads and to abide by our road rules. We all deserve to get home safely. Please remember to take notice of the flashing school zone hours and SAM signs.

Australia Day

I was honoured on January 26 to be the Presiding Officer at the annual Inala Lions Citizenship ceremony at the Bluefin Fishing Club. It was great to swear in our newest Australians that call Australia home. It is a privilege to play such an important role during this ceremony on this special day. Congratulations to President, Bob Richards, Lion John Moynihan, and Lion Les Josiah and Lions members for co-ordinating another successful ceremony.

Australia Day 2024.

Tet Festival

Thousands of people attended the annual Vietnamese Lunar New Year – TET Festival to celebrate the Year of the Dragon at the CJ Greenfield’s Sport Fields. This huge event was a wonderful success because of the hard work of the Vietnamese Community QLD Chapter committee and volunteers, led by Dr Cuong Bui.  This year, many dignitaries, and residents from across Brisbane, welcomed the Lunar New Year in style, enjoying the traditional performances, food, and stalls. This event is one of the important multicultural celebrations held in the Forest Lake Ward.

Your Voice Matters

With the next council election being held on March 16, it is a timely reminder for you to update your details with the Electoral Commission of Queensland, especially if you have moved recently or need to enrol to vote. I will be continuing to take opportunities to speak with residents about what they would like to see in our community. If you have an idea that will improve our community, I would like to hear from you. Special thank you to all the residents that have made time to chat with me about local council matters during my regular community mobile offices over the last year.

If there’s anything else I or my ward staff can help with on these or any other council matters, please contact my office at Forestlake.ward@bcc.qld.gov.au or on 34071211. I look forward to seeing you when I’m out and about in our community.
