Forest Lake Community Festival returns bigger and better

The Forest Lake Community Festival will be returning for the second time ever on Saturday September 10 from 2:00 pm – 7:00 pm.

Last year’s inaugural event saw thousands of Forest Lake community members come along and enjoy the afternoon, with this year’s festival set to be even bigger and better.

Forest Lake Community Festival coordinator Kylie Gates said the community is invited to bring a picnic blanket or chairs and set up for an evening of fun.

“With the support of our many sponsors, the day will include more market stalls and food trucks including everyone’s favourite, The Dagwood Dog Man,” she said.

“Roving entertainers will mingle through the crowds on stilts. Hula hoop performances, bubbleologists, fire twirlers and LED performers will light up the evening prior to our laser and fireworks finale at 7:00 pm.”

The event will also feature a free animal farm, reptiles to pet, dragon boat races, free face painting, and small rides located at a designated Kidz Zone.

“Community performances will be both on the stage and amphitheatre areas,” Mrs Gates said.

“Former Forest Lake S.H.S students Spotlights in Space band will be our entertainment on the main stage from 4:30pm.”

Mrs Gates, who has lived in Forest Lake for 12 years, founded the festival for the first time in 2021.

“I wanted to do something after the long lockdowns of COVID to bring together our community … I organised and ran the entire day,” she said.

“We have such a beautiful suburb and an amazing area at our lake that gets little to no use.”

Mrs Gates said last year’s laser and fireworks spectacular to end the evening went for over 7 minutes. This year’s display will move to the middle of the lake, making it even more spectacular.

“Being a free event where families don’t have to spend a fortune is the main drawcard,” she said.

“It was great to see so many locals come along, chill out in our beautiful parklands whilst soaking up the afternoon of entertainment and activities.

“Our market stalls were really bustling with people purchasing for Christmas early whilst supporting local small businesses.”

Parking will not be available in the car parks immediately surrounding the lake. Forest Lake shopping centre, Forest Lake SHS, sports oval carparks and surrounding streets are all within accessible walking distance to the lake.

Mrs Gates extended a special thank you to the community sponsors making this event possible, including Heritage Bank Forest Lake Community Branch, Charles Strunk Cr for Forest Lake Ward, La Bella Health & Beauty, SKC Lawyers, ILook Property Brisbane, and Total Tax & Accounting Solutions.
