Forest Like Fifty Plus Club Inc April 2023 update

The Lake News    March 31, 2023    2 min read

The Forest Lake Fifty Plus Club Inc. celebrated 30 wonderful years of operation at our March meeting, with three of our Life Members cutting a cake. Unfortunately, our longest serving member, Zoe Phillips was away for the event, as Zoe and Brian were off on holidays. Marion Harnwell, Maria Bell and Les Brooks all helped in cutting the cake and Marion gave an interesting talk on the history of the club for our members.

Our March outing was a visit to the Ipswich Railway Workshop Museum. We all enjoyed a lovely morning tea seated under several old Oak trees in the Museum grounds, before splitting into two groups for a guided tour of the old workshops. The museum has been lovingly restored with the most wonderful exhibits from the old steam trains through to the last of the locomotives that left the workshop before it closed. Our guide explained the various building designs that changed over the years to allow maximum natural light into the buildings. The Museum is a great heritage to honour the railway history of Queensland.

Afterwards, we made our way to the Phat Boyz Smokehouse at Walloon for lunch, where we were treated to fabulous smoked beef and pork dishes, and some lovely local beverages to wash it all down. It was a great day enjoyed by everyone. The Clubs ‘Extra Activity on the second Wednesday of the month was a morning tea at Worrill Parkland. This place is a hidden gem with bush walks, lakes and a fabulous area for kids (big and small) to play on the equipment. The area is well maintained by the council for all to enjoy.

The Forest Lake Fifty Plus Club wishes to acknowledge its ongoing support from the Heritage Community Branch, Forest Lake. The Forest Lake Fifty Plus Club meet on the third Friday of the month at The Old Inala Hall, Cr Rosemary Street Abelia Street, Inala at 10:30am. The Club’s next meeting will be on Friday March 17. This meeting will be the club’s AGM where a new Management Committee for 2023 will be elected.

For more information on the Club and its activities, please contact our president Leonie  on 0427846057 to register your interest, email fl50plusc@gmail.com. New members and visitors are always welcome.
