Personally Speaking
Hey there fellow Forest Lakers!
I’d like to start the new year by introducing myself. My name is Jamie Furness and I’m the main columnist and journalist for The Lake News. I’ve been working with the current Local News Publications team (formerly at Logan West News) since May 2021 and am completing my bachelor of communication at QUT.
While I currently live in the Logan West Area, I am no stranger to Forest Lake. I have spent 11 years dancing and working as a dance instructor at Allstars Performing Arts and formed many connections in the community through dance. Since I was 12, I have performed at and been involved in nearly every Forest Lake Christmas Carols event, as well as many local school fetes, McHappy days, shopping centre displays and more. I have even found myself published in The Lake News several times – here I am (far left) on the front page in July 2015:
The last six months have been super exciting for me to take on the role of community journalist in a community I’m already closely engaged in. I love Forest Lake, from the people to the places to the events that take place here.
Some highlights for me from 2022 included getting to know The Lake News’s community contributors, who have been incredibly supportive of the paper with their monthly submissions. I have also enjoyed working with our local businesses and advertisers, government representatives, charity groups, churches and the individuals who make up this great community.
Recently I also enjoyed bringing my husband and our two-week-old son along to the Forest Lake Community Festival on September 10, as well as attending the Forest Lake Christmas Carols on December 3 and helping backstage with Frozen the Musical on December 10.
Local News Publications is a family-owned business that prides itself on celebrating local stories, big or small. If you have a story you’d like me to write, please don’t hesitate to contact me any time via the contact information provided so we can spread the word. I look forward to getting to know you all as the new year progresses.
